Located in Princeton, New Jersey, Princeton Charter School was to open a school with high academic standards. A group of committed parents and community members opened the school in September of 1997 after spending only 8 or so months developing all aspects of the school.
 
Mission Statement: "Princeton Charter School's mission is to provide its diverse student body the best possible education by focusing on the fundamental academic disciplines in an atmosphere that affirms academic achievement, and in so doing, to offer the community true choice in public education. Princeton Charter School believes that a ``thorough and efficient'' education is best accomplished through a rigorous curriculum that requires mastery of core knowledge and skills."
 

Snapshot of PCS:

  • the school opened in September of 1997 and serves students in grades kindergarten through eight, current enrollment stands at 239;
  • English and mathematics are the cornerstone of the curriculum and meet one hour every day, other classes meet for forty-five minutes;
  • PCS currently offers French and Spanish world language classes;
  • visual arts, music, theater/drama are all key components of the academic program. All students learn to read music, learn the elements of drawing, painting, and sculpture.
  • a reading period is built into the daily schedule, allowing an opportunity for quiet time for silent, sustained reading;
  • every student is taught chess once a week by an experienced chess master;
  • an after school program is available for students until 6 pm for supervised play and homework period;
  • PCS was named a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education in 2004:
  • accredited by AALE in April 2002.
