Located in Tucson Arizona, Sonoran Science Academy is a college preparatory charter school with an emphasis in science, math and computer sciences while providing a solid liberal arts foundation for all students. In 2000, local scientists, educators and community leaders saw a need in Tucson for a school that focuses on computer sciences. These founders, dedicated in their pursuit of excellence, had a vision. This vision included students who were to compete with their international peers both in the classroom and in their jobs.
 
Mission statement: "The mission of Sonoran Science Academy (SSA) is college preparation for students to achieve success in the high-tech community of the new millennium through a science and math instructional program that includes high educational standards, a liberal arts foundation and meets individual student needs to compete successfully in a global technological society upon graduation."
 

Snapshot of SSA:

  • opened in 2001 serving grades 6 through 8, currently serving 142 students in grades K-12;
  • parents are welcomed and encouraged to be part of the learning environment, adding to the dynamics of the campus and enriching the classroom experience;
  • extra-curricular activities are open to all students, including National Junior/ National Honor Society, chess club, art club, anime club and peer tutoring club;
  • students at all grade levels are meeting or exceeding state and county standards when it comes to the AIMS test;
  • accredited by AALE in June 2004.
