Pilot Project - 2005

At its June 2005 meeting, the AALE Board of Trustees approved the director for higher education’s request to experiment with allowing non-baccalaureate liberal arts colleges, baccalaureate- granting online liberal arts colleges, and liberal arts oriented graduate programs and schools to apply for Institutional Accreditation and Preaccreditation. AALE believes that experience gained in carrying out its Learning Anytime Anywhere Partnerships (LAAP), conducted in conjunction with the US Department of Education’s Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE), the Pew Charitable Trusts, and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, will enable the Academy to apply standards to these growing areas of Higher Education that are closely patterned on its standards for four year institutions.

The Academy welcomes and encourages interested persons or institutions to comment on this project.
