AALE welcomes new Associate Members
Fall | 2019
At the American Academy for Liberal Education
(AALE) annual meeting on June 11, 2019, the Board of Trustees reviewed
applications for charter Associate membership, a new membership
initiative created to serve as AALE’s alternative, non-accredited venue
for supporting distinctive post-secondary programs that model excellence
in liberal education.
The
Board is pleased to announce the following post-secondary programs have
been accepted as charter Associate members 2019-2020: Liberal Arts
Program at Deep Springs College (CA); Great Books Program at Monterey
Peninsula College (CA); Integral Program at St. Mary’s College (CA);
Shimer Great Books School at North Central College (IL); Great Books
Program at Benedictine College (KS); Fortin/Gonthier Core Texts &
Enduring Questions Program at Assumption College (MA); Program of
Studies at Thomas More College of Liberal Arts (NH); Core Curriculum at
the King’s College (NY); The Honors College at Belmont Abbey College
(NC); Ashbrook Center at Ashland College (OH); Templeton Honors College
at Eastern University (PA); Core Curriculum at University of Dallas
(TX); Thomas Jefferson Center for the Study of Core Texts and Ideas at
the University of Texas-Austin (TX).

AALE Board
members Sara Henary and Joshua Hochschild are working with the new
charter Associate members to set an agenda for the coming year.
Discussions are to focus on shaping best ways to effectively articulate
what counts as genuine liberal education, building a brand identity that
promotes member programs among high school students looking to pursue
rigorous liberal arts learning on a post-secondary level, and increasing
Associate membership.
If
you are a post-secondary program interested in joining our efforts to
strengthen the value and public awareness of liberal education, we
invite you to submit an application for Associate membership. For
